This collection is the first of four that I plan to release over the next 12 months to mark my fourth decade in the world. As 2019 began I realised that, despite being in various bands over the last 5 years and having been busier musically than I've ever been, the last actual album release I played on was in 2014. Listening back, there's been a few things that have (for one reason or another) fallen by the wayside, with this being one of them.
This is a selection of tracks that all started off with me playing with short loops of my band Smallgang's last album, San, back in 2014. I used the Traktor DJ app on my then relatively new iPad Mini (1st gen), and arranged them while travelling on public transport. These commutes lent themselves well to playing with loops, and the act ate up the 'dead air' that those times can be. I missed my stop a few times.
I got these mastered at One Cat Studios sometime in late 2014 I believe, and while they're some of my favourite tracks to feature myself in one sense or another, the challenge of doing them live (i.e. sitting there and pressing play) along with a period of inaction with smallgang meant this was left languishing until now.
